Junior CSI Academy

The Sykesville Police Department, through the generous sponsorship of the Freedom District Lion’s Club is proud to host the annual Junior Crime Scene Investigators Academy, which is generally held in the Fall of each year.  This year marks the 13th anniversary of this worthwhile program, which was originally started by former Sykesville Police Chief John Williams and has continued under Chief Michael Spaulding's leadership. As a result of the pandemic, the program was shortened to one day and held entirely outdoors during 2021, and we plan to continue that format for this year's program. The program is scheduled for Saturday September 10, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will be once again held at Millard Cooper Park.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn topics such as fingerprinting, grid searches, computer crimes, as well as the importance of learning to locate, photograph and collect evidence. The course is free and open to middle school-aged students.

Preference will be given to those students who reside in the Town of Sykesville and to those students who have not attended in prior years. Applications are available in-person at our station located at 7547 Main Street or on our website but they will not be accepted until after August 1, 2022. Class size is limited and applications will be processed on a “first come, first served” basis.
